Tujunga Beverly Hills Home NATIVE PLANT GARDEN TOUR SoCal Landscapes Through the Seasons WINTER & SPRING SUMMER & FALL A Journey Through Place and Time The 2021 Garden Tour was an interactive at-home experience of California native plant gardens and landscapes through the seasons. Expanding from spring to an entire year of transformation, this series of virtual events took viewers on an adventure through eight gardens with HD video and 360-degree views. Winter and spring seasons were shared during a three-day celebration that took place in April 2021 over Zoom and YouTube. Highlights include stunning garden footage, landscape designer and homeowner interviews, expert panel discussions, experimental music performance, native plant beer tasting, and a keynote address from Doug Tallamy, author of Bringing Nature Home. Watch winter & spring replay . The Final Chapter: Dormancy The summer/fall dormancy season was shared during an event in October 2021 over Zoom and YouTube. This virtual event revisits the gardens to see how they changed from winter, through spring and into the summer. This live discussion with landscape designers and homeowners covers what to expect this time of year, how to design for year-round interest, and how to appreciate the natural cycles of the Southern California seasons. Explore the 2021 Garden Tour 360-degree views and interviews with homeow n ers , landscapers, designers, community leaders and land managers that create , sustain , and live in relationship with these ecosystems . 2021 Artwork The artwork for the 2021 Native Plant Garden Tour is a portrait of the Humboldt lily ( Lilium humboldtii ssp. ocellatum ) by Gene Bauer. Humboldt lilies grow wild in the hills of Southern California, and make wonderful garden specimens in greater Los Angeles. As geophytes (latin for earth-plant), they spend half of each year underground, waiting for winter rains for leaves to emerge before growing up to eight feet tall with profuse orange blooms arriving in June. With this dramatic annual cycle, we feel the Humboldt lily is the perfect icon for the 2021 tour, which celebrates native plant landscapes and their deep connection to the unique seasons and climate of Southern California.
